Collaboration Sites
NEW: You can find some excellent examples of online groups
sites at the OnlineGroups.Net sites page.
People in an organisation usually have some kind
of shared information system. A "G:" drive perhaps,
where they can share files. They provide little sense of place,
are often semi-organised at best but at least everyone can get to them.
People in different organisations don't even have that.
A shared files area, if you have one, is great for documents
but they don't support discussion. Email is supposed
to do that, but does it? Email is fantastic for one to one
communication and, as we all know, great for one to many, but as a medium for ongoing group conversations, for
many to many interaction, it's not very good. People
quickly get overwhelmed with email. It is a headache to manage
and the more people in a group, the more people
there are managing the same email, carefully
sorting through it and putting it into folders
where nobody else can find it.
Not only can nobody else in the group find it,
but nobody else in the organisation has any idea
that it's there. The ideas or information in those emails
are invisible to anyone who doesn't get bombarded with it.
The potential in those emails for reducing duplication,
for stopping things falling through gaps or for causing
happy knowledge accidents is zero.
GroupSense Collaboration Sites are
custom-designed online 'places' where
people can work, learn and share knowledge
together easily in groups, communities and
organisations.
Each Collaboration Site is
a virtual space that is designed
to meet the requirements of the
specific group/s that will use it.
GroupSense Collaboration Sites are built using GroupServer,
a Collaboration Server that provides an information system
or extranet for distributed groups and organisations.
Collaboration Sites have an area in a secure website
where people can share files and other information in groups.
GroupSense Collaboration Sites also enable people
to use email as a group communication medium.
They have many other features that enhance
collaboration.
One example of a GroupSense Collaboration Site
is the Online Groups site.
You can log in there and have a look around. If you would like to have
a group, or group of groups there, please
contact GroupSense .
