Verifying your eMail Address
You need to verify your email address before you will be able to see the Yahoo! Groups you have joined with that email address. Yahoo! requires this to prove that the Yahoo! ID belongs to the same person as the email address.
- Click the link to My Groups. "My Groups" is an important page as it lists all the Yahoo! Groups you are a member of. Bookmark this page in your browser. At this stage, you will probably see a message saying "Alert! You have 1 unverified email addresses."
- On the My Groups page, click the link to Email Preferences. You should now be on a page entitled "My Preferences". This page should show the email address you specified as your "Alternate Email" with the status "Non-Verified" and a link saying "verify". Make sure that is the email address you wish to use (if it is not, then go to your "Yahoo ID Card" to change it; access this by clicking the "Account Info" link at the top right corner of the screen).
- Click the "verify" link. when you do this, Yahoo! Groups send you an email containing a "verification code". Sometimes that email arrives almost immediately. At other times, there can be a CONSIDERABLE delay.
- When you receive the verification code by email, copy and paste the code from that email onto the web page.
- If you no longer have the "verify" web page open, click on the link provided in the "Yahoo! Email Verification" email (this automatically submits the verification code to Yahoo! Groups).
- you may now find yourself in the Membership Wizard
- Once your email address is verified, visit the My Groups page again. You should now be able to see a list of the Yaho! Groups you belong to.
the Membership Wizard
If you don't see all of your Yahoo! Groups on the My Groups page, use the Membership Wizard to locate them. The Membership Wizard has several steps. On each page, you should find a "continue" button that takes you to the next step. Here are some tips for steps in the Membership Wizard:
- Step 1. "Select the email addresses to use in searching for memberships" -- select the email address you are already in Yahoo! Groups with (if you have one, you do not have to use a Yahoo! email address here if you don't want to).
- Step 2. "Specify a Yahoo! profile for each group membership" -- choose your Yahoo! ID from the list, either for all groups or for each of your groups individually. If it says "No additional memberships found", then you should be able to see all the Yahoo! Groups you have joined with the email address you have verified for your Yahoo! ID.
- Step 3. "Automate Yahoo! ID Selection" -- it is a good idea to say yes to this
You should now be able to see a list of the Yaho! Groups you belong to on the My Groups page.
